Naples and Pompeii – The Legend of Parthenope
4 days / 3 nights
Meeting at the hotel with the guide after check in and settling into the rooms.
Departure for a visit to the Flavian Amphitheatre of Pozzuoli. This is where the fights between ferocious beasts and Gladiators took place.
After the visit, time for a quick walk to the Temple of Serapis, which was actually the macellum (market) of ancient Puteoli, where the effect of the bradyseism to which the city has been subject for centuries is particularly visible. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast departure for Pompeii. Guided visit to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Pompeii, the most popular in Campania thanks to the miraculous image of the Virgin of the Rosary. After the visit to the Sanctuary we move on to the Archaeological Excavations where there are the remains of the ancient city covered by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Lunch set in Ancient Rome at the Caupona restaurant.
After lunch, you will go back in time to relive one of the many moments that made Naples what it is today. Thanks to our collaboration with “Associazione Karma Arte Cultura Teatro”, you will be involved in one of the many theatrical tours of some of the most beautiful places in the history of the city and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast departure for the Historic Centre of Naples. During the “Walk of the Kings” we find the Castel dell’Ovo, where, in the 8th century BC, everything began with the legend of the siren Partenope and the Western Roman Empire ended because the last Emperor died there; Piazza del Plebiscito with the Royal Palace and the San Carlo Theatre, the oldest opera house in the world; the Umberto Gallery and the Maschio Angioino.
Lunch with a tasty fried pizza or pizza a portafoglio in the historical centre.
After lunch, visit the Gothic Church of Santa Chiara with its Angevin tombs; Church of Gesù Nuovo which houses the remains of San Giuseppe Moscati. A few metres away, we will visit the Church of Gesù Vecchio, linked to a strong Neapolitan religious tradition, where the Madonnina di Don Placido is venerated.
Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast departure for a guided tour of the Royal Palace of Portici and its park, built by Charles of Bourbon for his wife Maria Amalia, who was fascinated by the beauty of the place.
Immediately afterwards visit the excavations of Herculaneum. The refined Vesuvian city, victim, like Pompeii, of the eruption of Vesuvius but difficult to discover due to the type of eruptive material under which it fell.
